For some folk, stand your ground laws bring to mind a scene from an action movie, or a western, where the brave hero protects his town or his family, thank god.
Well, not so much for me. For me, the words stand your ground will forever be a slideshow of the anguished faces of parents who just want to keep their fucking children alive; a right that every feeling, thinking mammal should never have taken from them. This is the realization that NO ONE will help them. That NO ONE cares. That they have NO safe place. That should be the end of the debate and the deep, crippling inequities in our society are the one and only reason why this is even a conversation.
For me, it is the sober looks on the faces of children who have just learned that they cannot run, they cannot speak and no one will think it matters if they die. This is stand your ground.
